The Old Applewhite Store in Columbus County
This picture was probably made around 1905 or 1906.
There was a post office inside this old two-story store.
The Post Office was in operation from1892 to 1907.
I only know who three of the people are in the picture.
The man with the beard is Alec Lewis.
(Alec Lewis's son, John Ivey Lewis married Matt Dale's sister, Maggie Dale.)
The man pretending to cut Alec Lewis's beard was Bob Applewhite.
And the young barefoot boy in dark colored knickers, jacket and hat was Laston Roberts.
This picture is courtesy of the late Ellean Roberts Lewis.
